I got a T-5 a while ago. Taylor named the guitar the T-5 because of the 5 different ways they combine the 3 pickups. I am pretty much using mine as an electric acoustic guitar for a solo acoustic act. I could not find a factory sound out of the guitar that I thought was convincing enough to play an all-night acousic show on it. Other than the way it sounded, I was loving the guitar.
I did a little reading on Al Gore’s internets and found out that some people had added a piezo pickup under the bridge. I had a Baggs Element that I had purchased for another guitar but hadn’t gotten around to installing so I decided to try that.
I am happy to report that it now kicks some serious ass. It has a very convincing acoustic electric sound and because of the small F-holes, instead of a round hole, there are no feedback issues.

A while back, someone asked me what my favorite guitar effect was. I thought for a minute and came up with a Fender Bassman and a cord. It just doesn’t get much better than that for an electric guitar sound. I should probably mention that I was thinking of a single coil pickup on the guitar.
For years, when I was a youngster, my rig was a Fender Mustang (bought new in around 1966) and my black-faced Bassman. I bought it used, so I’m guessing it was about a 1964 vintage. It was a piggy-back thing, with the amp on top and a speaker cabinet with 2-12″ speakers. It was a very sweet guitar amp, although not that great of a bass amp.
That old Bassman is long gone. I don’t even remember exactly what happened to it. I’m sure we parted ways sometime in the early ’70’s. That period of my life is quite foggy (I’ve been clean and sober since December 9, 1981).
A few years ago, I found a Music Man 100 head at Sunset Pawn, in Sioux Falls. That amp has some of the same magic that my old Bassman had, plus reverb. Leo Fender sure knew how to make an amplifier.

“Free at last, free at last.”
It was forty years ago that Martin Luther King Jr. was gunned down in Memphis. I just saw some footage of Bobby Kennedy making the announcement… so sad knowing that a few months later he would be killed too.

Out with the old, in with the new.
It’s time for a change, that’s what Obama will do.
We’ve already had a Clinton, and two presidents named Bush
It seems like the second one is never as good as the first.
So, let’s shake it up, let’s rock the vote
We’re endorsing Obama, and this you can quote.
But if it turns out, that people don’t want someone new
We’ll get behind Hillary, because a another Clinton will do.

I lived in Mankato for 28 years, before moving to Sioux Falls about 10 years ago. I don’t get back there as often as I’d like to, but I’m headed over tonight to play a show at the Coffee Hag. I didn’t do much for promotion so it will probably be a slow night, but I enjoy playing so it will be fun, even if I’m playing to an empty room.

Woody one wrote, “some men rob you with a six-gun, others rob you with a fountain pen.” I’m sure Woodie was using “men” in the generic sense and that he didn’t mean to exclude women or their hefty attorneys in his quote.
Divorce court was last Wednesday and to say that my hind quarter has some extreme discomfort would be an understatement. The good news is, I made it out with my guitars so the music will go on.
There is a sign at the local music store, Sioux Falls Music, that says something like, “If you have a problem that can’t be solved with a good guitar, it either isn’t a problem or it can’t be solved.”
Rock on, I know I will.

Good guitars are made out of good wood. It turns out that the 4 or 5 I play most, all have rosewood back and sides, spruce tops, mahogany necks and ebony fingerboards. They are all acoustics of various sizes and shapes. They all sing to me in different voices and each voice is beautiful in its own way.
I have some electrics that are a blast to play, but most of my amplifiers are still being held hostage. They will soon be free and back where they belong.
I’m playing at the Black Sheep this Saturday, after taking most of the summer off. It’s been incredibly busy this summer at work and looks to be staying that way for the next few years at least. I’m happy I can be a part of bringing the unions back to South Dakota, but I do miss playing my guitars.

Who wouldn’t want socks for Christmas? I guess I found out the hard just how ungrateful some people are. Money was tight and socks weren’t the only gift she got, in fact, she got exactly what she asked for, the socks were a bonus because she mentioned that she only had one pair.
Her gift to me? Let’s just say she was trying to sell it on Craig’s list a few weeks later.
Did I mention that she thew me out of my home on Christmas night? I’m not bitter, but her vindictive spirit is quite annoying. But, I guess I should expect it out of her, she still complains about her first husband after over 25 years. I’m sure I’ll be on her shit list for the rest of her life.
The up side? As my friend Barb said, “you’ll have plenty to write about.”
As John Lennon said, “all you need is love.” Check into it.
